Garden and landscape historian – overview and story

Temple was an authority and pioneer in this field.  A key figure in the Picturesque movement, Temple is widely recognised as having done much to further our knowledge in garden history and all matters picturesque. He made a huge and valuable contribution to our knowledge and understanding of gardens, gardening, landscape gardening and horticulture in all its aspects. This in turn has helped raise awareness of the immense value of the historic landscape and the restoration and preservation of our landscape heritage for future generations to enjoy. Using material in his collection he answered ceaseless stream of queries and questions and requests for advice on the Repton dynasty.  He was a continuous source of advice on garden history, landscape design and architectural matters including follies, grottos and other historic garden buildings
